BlizzCon 2008: The comedy of the closing ceremony

Oct 12

BlizzCon offered up not one but two, Two, TWO comedians for the price of one at the closing ceremonies. We knew Patton Oswalt would be performing, but were weren’t aware he’d have a warm-up act. As far as our experience with comedy goes (which is basically reading Ludwig’s and Justin’s posts), opening acts normally suck. And even though he dresses like a lumberjack and looks much older than the 31 his MySpace page claims, Kyle Kinane was funny as well.

Head after the jump to listen to the full comedy stylings of both Patton and Kyle after the break. You may never go commando in corduroy pants again.

Tecmo introduces the new faces of Team Ninja

Oct 12

Filed under:

At a very, very informal Tecmo event, held during the Tokyo Game Show on Saturday evening, attendees were introduced to the new faces of post-Itagaki Team Ninja. Though we’d heard before that Jin Hasegawa had taken over as the head of the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive development team, it was our first opportunity to meet the team’s new representation. Joining him is Yosuke “Itsygaki” Hayashi, director of Ninja Gaiden Sigma and producer of Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword. Neither of them wear sunglasses indoors.

Tecmo refrained from commenting on the team’s upcoming slate of games, candidly stating that it was working on “a shitload of projects.” Which either implies a large quantity of games, or a very oddly named RPG.

Nokia shocks no one, confirms N-Series touchscreen handset

Oct 12

Filed under:

Hey, it’s not like you really expected Nokia to ride the coattails of its N95 / N96 forever without adding in a dash of innovation, right? At a recent Nokia event held in New Delhi, Devinder Kishore (the director of marketing for Nokia India) was quoted as saying that “We will have lots of touchscreen phones coming up, including an N-series device very soon.” Granted, it’s not at all shocking to hear that the engineers in Espoo are already conjuring up touch-friendly N-series handsets, but at least you know there’s a fingertip-lovin’ Nokia coming for you if the XpressMusic 5800 just ain’t rubbing you the right way.

EA store reveal Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack

Oct 11

Well, that was fast. With just over a month since Will Wright’s Spore was released to the masses, a listing has popped up on Electronic Arts’ online store for Spore: Creepy & Cute Parts Pack, something we’ve known to be coming since our E3 2008 interview. You can currently pre-order the expansion, available as direct download for $19.95 on Tuesday, November 18, though that could change. Are you ready for an onslaught of creepier (and cuter) penis creatures?

[Thanks, TechNick]

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows launch trailer is symbio-tastic

Oct 11

Despite what that affront-to-mankind-in-motion-picture-form, Spider-Man 3, may have tried to make you believe, merging with a dreaded symbote doesn’t turn you into a mopey jerk with an unfashionable haircut and nightmarish dance moves. We feel that the upcoming Activision web-slinging simulator, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, depicts a much more accurate account of the side-effects of fusion with tar-like alien lifeforms: A widening of the eyes, an elongation of the teeth, and tendrils — oh, so very many tendrils.

The launch trailer for the aforementioned title, posted above, gives us a good sampling of the symbiotic adversaries we’ll be pummeling come Web of Shadows‘ October 21 release date — and with a classy touch of Moonlight Sonata to boot. We highly suggest checking it out — perhaps you’ll find some place in your heart that hasn’t eternally sworn off games featuring the titular, charismatic wall-crawler.

Sony Ericsson’s 8.1MP C905 Cyber-shot cellphone gets unboxed on video

Oct 11

Filed under:

Oh sure, you’ve seen the 8.1-megapixel C905 Cyber-shot in the wild and in our very own hands, but have you seen it unboxed entirely on video? No? Well, today’s your lucky day. Sony Ericsson’s shutterbug-of-a-cellphone is a touch on the thick side and doesn’t come with too many extras (you know, like a detachable zoom lens), but as SE always manages to do, it has delivered a pretty enviable beast all things considered. Have a look at the video after the break.

[Thanks, Gregg]

Confirmed: Girls and booze at Tecmo TGS party

Oct 11

Tecmo’s John Inada took the stage, welcoming video game journalists who had made the long journey to Tokyo Game Show. He was obviously a little intoxicated, spilling a bit of wine from his glass as he swayed around. TGS was over, he told us, wanting us to take a break and relax with some free food.

The evening was filled with a number of strange “jokes” about the troubled state of Tecmo, which includes its former star developer, Itagaki, initiating a lawsuit against it. One of the most awkward moments of the evening came from Inada’s comment about over-the-top gifts made by publishers to journalists. “If you don’t know who I am,” he said, “then you probably haven’t accepted one of my gifts, as they’re called by some guy named after something I put on my stinky feet.”

That joke left the room a little silent. But that silence wasn’t meant to last long. Shortly afterward, Tecmo’s Yoh Watanabe took the stage to once and for all put an end to the rumors of Tecmo’s outlandishness. “Tecmo has been accused of plying the media with booze and girls,” he said. “Well, it’s true!”

The Incrudo hard drive is another entry to the bling gadget collection we’ve already featured. It’s nothing special if you think ruby and titanium aren’t.

The titanium casing makes it more resistant to corrosion and water. There’s only 8GB of storage memory so don’t expect you’ll be able to save …
